Ultrasound and Bloodwork
I went in to recheck my hormone levels last Monday and see how everything is balancing out since my surgery and half of my left ovary was removed in September. It turns out that what remains of my left ovary is still producing follicles. I had a total of 17 follicles between both ovaries. I also had no evidence of any cysts or endometriosis reoccurring on my ovaries so that was music to my ears!
My hormones levels came back normal except for my DHEAS level. I won’t bore you with the details but if you do a google search you will find a correlation between higher levels of this hormone and PCOS. I had been diagnosed with PCOS at the beginning of our fertility struggles but endometriosis quickly became our main issue and focus. Since we have dealt with the endo, we can now focus on the PCOS issues.
Dr. Miller had me do a dexamethasone suppression test over the weekend. I took a dose of dexamethasone every 6 hours for 3 days and retested the hormone on Monday. The medicine was able to lower the DHEAS level from 377 to 109 which is perfect, so from now until egg retrieval I will take a low dose daily to keep that level stabilized.
I started birth control pills and I will be starting my leuprolide stomach injections the night we get back from vacation. Then we will be on our way with our stimulation cycle and egg retrieval which will be sometime around the 27-30th of March, depending on how I respond. It’s exciting and nerve racking at the same time. We are going to be soaking up every bit of sun and relaxation next week on vacation because the night we get back, we will be diving back in!
